TEST KITCHEN

With January being the quietest month of the travel season in western North Carolina, Dave spent some time this week trying out two new quiche recipes. Quiche is a baked egg dish and one dish will serve 4 to 6 people. When served right out of the oven, it has that “melt in your mouth” quality that makes it a great comfort food and one that’s perfect to warm you on a wintry mountain morning.

DINNER RECOMMENDATION: DECEMBER

Our guests who like authentic Thai food have started discovering one of the newest restaurants in Black Mountain, Thai Basil. It’s a locally owned restaurant, with a second location in Asheville. Thai Basil in Black Mountain is open for lunch (noon to 3pm) and dinner (5pm-9:30pm) seven days a week, which is great because many restaurants are closed on Sunday or Monday.

BAKING WITH BRIGETTE (OR NOT)

It is becoming a well known fact that Innkeeper Dave is a great cook (although he is quite modest and will never admit it, no matter what the guests say). It naturally follows that he makes breakfast at the Inn. However, Innkeeper Brigette does attempt cooking and baking from time to time, which is true if you count toast.
