Asheville Area Restaurants Open for Thanksgiving 2014
We know many of you will be spending Thanksgiving at a family member or friend’s home eating dinner, watching football, taking a nap, the usual Turkey Day traditions. However, for our guests and anyone traveling to the Asheville area for a getaway next week, never fear, there are plenty of restaurants open on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2014.

It’s a common scenario: You find a terrific little vacation spot with several great restaurants and they all look awesome, and you know that they add so much to the area in terms of history and culture, which you’d love to experience. Black Mountain, North Carolina, is one such place. Problem is, you don’t have time to try them all before you head home. Well, let’s solve that problem, shall we?

We’re told that Asheville, NC, has more breweries per capita than any other city in the United States. And we believe it. Currently, there are 16 craft breweries (and counting), and Asheville has something like 80,000 residents, so there is plenty of brew for Ashevillians and visitors alike. Favorites of ours include the Black Mocha Stout from Highland Brewing Company in Asheville, Green Man IPA from Green Man Brewery in Asheville, and the GFY Scotch Ale from Lookout Brewing Company in Black Mountain. And we love so many others as well.

Many people who visit the mountains of North Carolina have “go to a farmers’ market” on their list of things to do. And for good reason: an abundance of small, family-owned farms are in the mountains, many of them organic, and many of them make their items available for sale at local tailgate markets. Seriously, what’s better than farm fresh strawberries, tomatoes and other fruits and veggies, beautiful cut flowers, and delicious local honey?
2014 Dine To Be Kind Event
The 11th annual Dine To Be Kind event, where participating local restaurants donate a portion of their sales (including take-out and bar tab) to the Asheville Humane Society and its Animal Compassion Network Department, will take place Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Just another reason to support our local restaurants, coffee shops and taverns – they are awesome supporters of lifesaving programs for pets-in-need. Have we mentioned how much we love living in an area that loves animals?

We had a lot of fun being part of the Visions of Sugar Plums Christmas Cookie Tour for the third year in a row. The Christmas Cookie tour is a public tour of B&Bs and Inns in and around Black Mountain, NC, and funds raised from ticket sales are donated to charity. As is our tradition, we chose a chocolate-based cookie for the Inn on Mill Creek’s 2013 cookie. Enjoy!

Folk Art Center and Pisgah Inn Reopen
The Folk Art Center off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville |
The Asheville, North Carolina, area was hit with some hard news earlier this month when the Folk Art Center and the Pisgah Inn and Restaurant both closed as a result of the federal government shutdown. Both are located along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and are popular places for our guests and other visitors to see, especially during the beautiful fall season. The Pisgah Inn’s restaurant serves a fantastic lunch and dinner and is the perfect stop when traveling south on the Parkway to see fall foliage and hike at Mt. Pisgah and Graveyard Fields, while the Folk Art Center is a great destination for viewing regional art and craftwork while traveling the Parkway north toward the fall colors and hiking trails around Craggy Gardens and Mt. Mitchell State Park.
