42 DAYS AND COUNTING…

Spring is just a little over a month away…we’re getting excited about seeing all the bulbs that have starting springing up here at the Inn on Mill Creek, such as crocuses, tulips and daffodils. The irises are peeking out, too, as is the stonecrop. No sign of the hyacinths yet. Those were put in just last Fall as part of the 500-bulb addition to the Pool Garden.

Someone stop Brigette; she’s on gardening overload. We’ve received about 14 seed and nursery gardening catalogs in the past two weeks, and the lists (plural) of what to buy next just keep getting longer and longer. Thumbing through page after page of beautiful flowers and shrubs is a great way to pass a winter’s day.
A WARM SPELL

Being from Ohio, we’ve come to expect a little blustery, chilly, snowy weather in December. Well, here it is, December 10, and it’s 75 degrees and sunny here in western North Carolina. We saw snow on some of the Craggy Mountains above the town of Black Mountain over Thanksgiving and we were sure that more of the white stuff was on its way to us. But we’ve been pleasantly surprised by the pleasantly warm weather. We have the windows open today, which seems bizarre for us northerners.

Brigette spent a good, theraputic, two hours planting baby perennials that arrived last week from Blue Stone Perennials (http://www.bluestoneperennials.com/). Now that summer is pretty much over, it’s getting darker earlier, so more gardening therapy continues tomorrow.
