When we mention to guests that Biltmore Estate in Asheville decks its halls with bows of holly for the Christmas season, we’re talking 175,000 square feet of halls, living rooms and dining rooms and gathering rooms, bedrooms and more, completely decked out in Christmas grandeur. When the annual tree raising ceremony at Biltmore Estate happens (at 10am on November 1 this year), it’s a 35-foot Christmas tree for the seven-story banquet hall inside Biltmore House, which also happens to have a massive fireplace that’s actually three fireplaces in one. Santa definitely has his choice of chimneys to come down at Biltmore — there are 65 fireplaces in total.

From Biltmore House that looks like a French chateau, the Winery with complimentary tastings, Antler Hill Village and the Farm, and amazing food in the restaurants, to the fabulous blooms and shrubs in the gardens… there’s a little something for everyone. There’s even something for your four-legged family members.

As we celebrate the tulips and daffodils coming up at here at the Inn on Mill Creek, and the arrival of our rose bushes for the Well Garden {ordered by Witherspoon, a North Carolina rose grower and professional rose care service}, we’re also getting excited about the annual Festival of Flowers at Biltmore.

If Mother Nature’s favorite colors on her paint palette right now are brown tones where you live, look no further for a color {and flower!} fix than Biltmore Estate, the entrance of which is about 20 minutes west of the Inn on Mill Creek. The Biltmore Conservatory, a short walk from Biltmore House, is an indoor oasis, loaded floor to ceiling with trees and tropical plants. Plus, winter is the perfect time to see all of Biltmore’s orchids in bloom, such as the one above. They’re special enough that they get their own room in the Conservatory!
