Exciting news: All of the towns around the Inn on Mill Creek Bed & Breakfast — Asheville, Black Mountain, and Old Fort, North Carolina — will have fireworks displays this year! Of course, there are other events going on, and if you want to avoid the crowds, we can help with that as well. Here’s what’s happening in our neck of the woods during the 4th of July weekend:

2014 Asheville Beer Week is May 23-31

Wicked Weed Brewing in Asheville [photo credit: boabeerblog]

We’re told that Asheville, NC, has more breweries per capita than any other city in the United States. And we believe it. Currently, there are 16 craft breweries (and counting), and Asheville has something like 80,000 residents, so there is plenty of brew for Ashevillians and visitors alike. Favorites of ours include the Black Mocha Stout from Highland Brewing Company in Asheville, Green Man IPA from Green Man Brewery in Asheville, and the GFY Scotch Ale from Lookout Brewing Company in Black Mountain. And we love so many others as well.

Early May Morning in the Biltmore Azalea Garden

Biltmore Azaleas, early May 2014

We headed over to Biltmore Estate on May 6, to walk through the Azalea Garden and were treated to a beautiful sight, and of course, we had to share it with you. 2014 Biltmore Blooms is March 20 – May 23

the prime time in spring for maximizing your enjoyment of the area’s colorful flora and
fauna, the season really does magically kick off each year right around March
20, with daffodil and forsythia blooms, among some other early spring flowers.
And Biltmore helps out, too, with its Biltmore Blooms celebration.

2014 Dine To Be Kind Event

The 11th annual Dine To Be Kind event, where participating local restaurants donate a portion of their sales (including take-out and bar tab) to the Asheville Humane Society and its Animal Compassion Network Department, will take place Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Just another reason to support our local restaurants, coffee shops and taverns – they are awesome supporters of lifesaving programs for pets-in-need. Have we mentioned how much we love living in an area that loves animals?

Welcome to our seventh and final weekly Fall Color Report for the North Carolina Mountains around Asheville, Black Mountain, and Old Fort. It makes us a little bit sad to know that this is our last report on fall foliage for the year, but we still have some color on the trees and before we know it, spring will be here. Guess we do have to get through winter first. But until then…
